Ideally its best to create you own brushes as then your images will be 100% your own work, but I think everyone uses the odd brush from downloaded packs every now and again. As far as recommending brushes, hmm, I dont know, I mainly use my own which can be found in my gallery (sorry, I know its shameless self promotion but its true :) )
